W. Knight and Beverley Randolph Knight honors their parents\u2019 love of humor and the laughter that filled their home. This scholarship provides financial support to University of Virginia students currently in their 1st\u20133rd year who are identified as having an excellent sense of humor.<\/p>\n<p>Recipients are selected based on three criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Outstanding sense of humor<\/li>\n<li>Scholastic merit<\/li>\n<li>Financial need*<br \/>\n<small class=\"d-inline-block lh-1\">* Those with <em>no<\/em> financial need will be ineligible to win scholarship funds, but are welcome to participate and perform at the live event.<\/small><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div class=\"alert alert-primary\" role=\"alert\">\n<p class=\"lead\" style=\"font-size: 1.25rem;\"><strong>Comedy Knight 2026 will be at Newcomb Hall Theater on January 29!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n\n<h2>Key Dates<\/h2>\n<dl class=\"row\">\n<dt class=\"col-sm-3 col-lg-2 text-sm-end\"><time datetime=\"2025-12-01\"><abbr title=\"December\">Dec.<\/abbr> 1, 2025<\/time><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"col-sm-9 col-lg-10\">Audition sign-up deadline. <a href=\"https:\/\/uvaalumni.org\/scholarships\/alumni-association-awards\/w-w-w-knight-memorial-scholarship\/register\/\">Sign up here<\/a><\/dd>\n<dt class=\"col-sm-3 col-lg-2 text-sm-end\"><time datetime=\"2025-12-03\"><abbr title=\"December\">Dec.<\/abbr> 3, 2025<\/time><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"col-sm-9 col-lg-10\">In-person auditions at Newcomb Hall.<\/dd>\n<dt class=\"col-sm-3 col-lg-2 text-sm-end\"><time datetime=\"2026-01-29\"><abbr title=\"January\">Jan.<\/abbr> 29, 2026<\/time><\/dt>\n<dd class=\"col-sm-9 col-lg-10\">Comedy Knight event at Newcomb Theater<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n\n<h2>Stand-Up Comedy Rules and Criteria<\/h2>\n<p>This portion of the scholarship involves a live stand-up event. Performers may be eligible to win up to $4,000 in scholarship funds. Review the rules and criteria below, sign up to audition, and prepare a short stand-up routine and receive feedback and tips from our guest judge.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All work must be original.<\/li>\n<li>Stand-up comedy must be completed live and in-person at the event.<\/li>\n<li>Performances should be a maximum of five minutes.<\/li>\n<li>Your content must not be defamatory or insulting to others based on gender, race, religion, sexual orientation or ethnicity. Humor based on yourself and your own identity is allowed and encouraged.<\/li>\n<li>Be surprising and creative\u2014push yourself beyond excessive clich\u00e9d, foul or vulgar language.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Created by their children, the William W.
