Meet the Aggarwal Family
Reggie Aggarwal (Com ’91) is the Founder and CEO of Cvent, a global leader in events and hospitality technology. He has been broadly recognized for his leadership and innovation in the technology community, and his family’s gift is the largest in the Alumni Association’s 190-year history. As an alumnus, Aggarwal has maintained close ties with the UVA community, serving as a guest lecturer and keynote speaker, often reflecting on how lessons learned at UVA have shaped his journey. He lives in McLean, Virginia, with his wife, Dharini, and their three children—one of whom is a current UVA student.

While virtually everyone who attends UVA has some ‘affinity groups’ they belong to, the Alumni Association is the one ‘club’ that provides a common bond among all graduates. Having a first-class space to gather with fellow Hoos makes coming back to Charlottesville even more special.
I love the concept of building a home for every Hoo. When my plane touches down in Charlottesville it still feels a little like coming home. The Alumni Association’s new building is the opportunity to spark that feeling.
I look forward to the next rendition of Alumni Hall being synonymous with welcome and outreach. Connecting people of various backgrounds leads to a special sense of community.
It’s not just about the bricks and mortar—it’s about creating an atmosphere that cheers our hearts and warms our blood.
I truly believe the UVA Alumni Association offers an outstanding range of programs and support for alumni around the world. It’s exciting to see the Alumni Association creating a remarkable space for Hoos to reconnect when they return to Grounds.
A Home for every Hoo represents more than just a physical building. It represents a lifelong, inclusive community for all alumni, regardless of where they are from or when they graduated; a community that will always welcome us back to Grounds.
The new space has something for everyone’s needs. It will be a great place to for alumni who need a space to go between activities and meetings in Charlottesville. The new building will also be a place for prospective Hoos, whether children of alumni or new families, to get an introduction to UVA.
I love the idea of paying it forward so that future generations of Wahoos can come to love the Alumni Association the same way I did when I stepped on Grounds 20 years ago. Physical space is important for communities to thrive, and my hope is this building fosters creativity, connection, and bonding for students and alumni alike.
Alumni Hall has been a meaningful building for me for many decades. As a member of the Class of 1974, I am particularly excited that my friend and classmate Patty Kyle Epps had the vision to honor our story as the first full class of undergraduate women at UVA by naming the library for us. It was a joy for many of us to contribute to that space.
It’s time to change Alumni Hall’s look and function to represent the front door of the new University of Virginia.
It is time for a new physical space to serve as the gathering place for Hoos of every stage and vintage. I want alumni Hoos and future generations of students to enjoy a modern, fresh building with flexible spaces for events of every sort and a design that echoes the best parts of the University.
The fact that the new building will be in the exact location as the current site is enticing, it is prime real estate and serves as the “gateway” to UVA when traveling from the north.
No matter where you’re from, what you studied, or when you graduated, there’s a place for you here. That sense of belonging, of immediate connection, is what makes the UVA alumni community so special.
For nearly 100 years, Alumni Hall has served the needs of alumni and the broader UVA community extremely well—but it is time for a refresh. The new building will blend the best of UVA’s traditional sense of place with the light and space that will serve as a compelling gathering point for alumni, students, faculty, administration and the community at large.
We get so excited thinking about how a new Alumni Association building can serve the needs of so many alumni, student organizations, and community members…To think of the thousands of ways a new, state-of-the-art space can and will be used in the future is absolutely fantastic.
A Home for Every Hoo resonates with me because it creates a real sense of belonging. We want alumni to not only feel welcome in this new building, but to feel a part of it. So, no matter where they are, every Hoo will feel a sense of belonging to our special community.
To me, A Home for Every Hoo represents a space where all members of the UVA family—across generations, backgrounds, and experiences—feel seen, valued, and connected. It’s about honoring the University’s rich traditions while embracing the diversity and excellence of our alumni, friends, and families. The new design tells that story—one of unity, inclusion, and forward momentum.
It represents a place where everyone in our community can come together, share experiences, and create lasting connections. It’s about creating an environment where every alum feels valued and connected to our shared history.
