General Questions

Why make a gift for a commemorative brick or paver stone?

A commemorative brick or paver stone is a meaningful, personal way to be part of the lasting legacy of Aggarwal Hall and support the UVA alumni community’s new home. Bricks and paver stones will be custom engraved to celebrate the experiences, people, and organizations that shaped your UVA journey.

Your donation for a brick or paver stone is a tax-deductible gift to the UVA Alumni Association, an alumni-led 501(c)(3). More payment and tax information is provided below.

How does my gift support Aggarwal Hall?

Your donation supports the cost of completing construction on Aggarwal Hall, bringing the vision of a welcoming ‘home for every Hoo’ to life.

Can I make an additional gift to support the UVA Alumni Association Annual Fund?

Absolutely (and thank you for asking!). When completing payment for your order, you’ll have the opportunity to make an additional gift to the Annual Fund to support the programs, traditions, and services that connect Hoos everywhere. We are extremely grateful for your support at any level.

Are there other naming opportunities available at Aggarwal Hall?

Yes. In addition to commemorative bricks and pavers, a limited number of naming opportunities are available throughout Aggarwal Hall. To learn more, please contact Tom Hicks (Col class of ’87) or Lizzie Temme (Col class of ’09).

Who may make a gift for a commemorative brick or paver stone?

Anyone is welcome to make a gift for a commemorative brick or paver stone while supplies last. Participation is open to all.

Ordering

How do I order a commemorative brick or paver stone?

Complete this online order form and make your donation through our secure online giving page. Your order is complete when you receive both an order confirmation email and a gift receipt email.

What brick and paver stone options are available? How much do I need to donate to order?

Two options are available:

• Bricks are available for a minimum gift of $500. Each brick is 4×8 inches and will be installed on the Main Event Terrace .
• Pavers are available for a minimum gift of $1,838 to commemorate the founding year of the UVA Alumni Association and will be installed on the Sprigg Lane Terrace and Emmet Street Terrace .

May I purchase more than one brick or paver stone?

Yes. You may purchase up to 5 bricks and 5 paver stones per order form.

May I purchase a brick or paver stone in honor or memory of someone?

Yes. Many donors choose to recognize a family member, classmate, mentor, faculty member, friend, or UVA organization.

Engraving

How many lines and characters are available?

What types of inscriptions are permitted?

Because bricks and pavers will become a permanent part of Aggarwal Hall, inscriptions should be respectful and appropriate for public recognition. Political messages or other statements inappropriate for a shared public space, commercial advertising or promotional content, and hateful, discriminatory, or vulgar language are not permitted. All inscriptions are subject to review and approval by the Alumni Association, which reserves the right to decline any proposed inscription.

Can I include my class year, degree, or UVA organization?

Yes, as long as your inscription fits within the available line and character limits. All inscriptions are subject to UVA Alumni Association approval.

Can I use special characters or emojis?

Engraving is limited to letters, numbers, and punctuation.

Will I have the opportunity to approve my inscription?

Yes.  Approving your inscription is part of the ordering process, and you’ll receive confirmation with the engraving details for your records.

Managing Your Order

How will I know if my order is complete?

You’ll receive two confirmation emails—one verifying your customized engraving details and another confirming your gift. Your order is complete only when you have received both emails. If we have questions about your order or inscription, we’ll contact you before production.

What if I submitted the order form but didn’t complete my gift?

Submitting an order form alone does not reserve a brick or paver. You must also complete the giving form. Your order is complete only when you have received both an order confirmation email and a gift receipt email. Your order confirmation will include a link to the giving form if needed to complete your gift.

What if I discover an error?

Approving your inscription is part of the ordering process, and you’ll receive confirmation with the engraving details for your records.

If you discover an error after the ordering process is complete, please contact us as soon as possible at aggarwal-hall-bricks@virginia.edu. We’ll do our best to make corrections before production begins.

Can I change my order after submitting it?

If you need to update your inscription, change your contact information, or upgrade from a brick to a larger paver, please contact us as soon as possible at aggarwal-hall-bricks@virginia.edu. We’ll do our best to make requested changes before production begins.

Can I cancel my order?

Please contact us as soon as possible at aggarwal-hall-bricks@virginia.edu if you need to cancel your order. We will make every effort to accommodate requests before production begins.

Payment and Tax Information

Is my gift tax deductible?

Your gift is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You’ll receive a gift receipt for your records.  Please consult your tax advisor for specific guidance.

Can my employer match my gift?

Many employers offer matching gift programs. See if your company will match your donation.

Installation

Where will commemorative bricks and paver stones be installed?

Commemorative bricks will be installed on the Main Event Terrace , one of Aggarwal Hall’s signature outdoor gathering spaces. Commemorative paver stones will be installed on the Sprigg Lane Terrace and Emmet Street Terrace , welcoming Hoos home to Aggarwal Hall.

Can I choose the exact location?

Exact brick and paver stone locations will be determined by our construction partners to preserve the overall design and layout of exterior spaces.

What is the deadline to order and when will my brick or paver stone be installed?

The deadline to place an order is January 31, 2027.  Installation is scheduled to be completed before Aggarwal Hall’s grand opening in spring 2027.

What happens if the site changes in the future?

While bricks and pavers are intended to remain in place permanently, the UVA Alumni Association reserves the right to relocate them if necessary, due to future construction, maintenance, or site improvements, while preserving donor recognition whenever possible.
