A Home for Every Hoo

Alumni Hall has been a home to the Alumni Association since 1936. The building has welcomed thousands of new graduates, created a place for treasured student traditions, and served as the celebratory center for Hoos of all ages to show orange and blue pride.

But to fully honor the spirit of those who came before—and those who are yet to come—it is time to build a new home. A home that marries the best of the past with our aspirations for the future. A home that serves a worldwide alumni base while recognizing the unique contributions of each visitor. Construction will begin September 1, 2025 with an expected grand opening in the spring of 2027.

A home where Hoos and Hoos-at-Heart will always belong

Welcome to Aggarwal Hall
Future Home of the Alumni Association

The reimagined Alumni Hall will be a warm and inviting new space designed to serve as a welcoming home for the University’s vast and vibrant alumni base, and all who come to Grounds. The 50,000-square-foot project recently received a transformational naming gift from the Aggarwal Family and will reopen as Aggarwal Hall in recognition of their generosity. The building will sit on the same parcel of land as the existing Alumni Hall, round out a rapidly evolving Emmet/Ivy corridor, and fill a longstanding void in the hospitality experience for alumni and visitors alike.

The central gallery

A familiar place, positioned for the future

With an exterior inspired by Pavilion IX and an interior crafted to foster connection, the new building innovatively weaves together classical architecture and contemporary features. At its center, a dramatic atrium draws in sunlight and elegantly pulls together flexible, multi-use spaces for gatherings of 50 to 500. Along the perimeter, outdoor areas engage Emmet Street and offer easy access.

A much-needed home, a unique community asset

This is the home that Hoos deserve. It is also the home that visitors, our Hoos-at-heart, need. Help us transform the experience for all who come to Grounds, from alumni, to students, to prospective families, to Charlottesville residents. Help us create a front door.
