Thank you for your interest in applying to the UVA Alumni Association’s Young Alumni Council (YAC) for the 2026–27 Council year. YAC is seeking alumni from the undergraduate classes of 2015–2026 who are passionate about advocating for the needs of UVA young alumni, regardless of their involvement as students or their current engagement with the University as alumni.
YAC is a dynamic, proactive group that works in partnership with the Alumni Association to engage and support UVA’s young alumni community.
Over the last three decades, YAC has been an engine of ingenuity and engagement, from initiating treasured traditions like Young Alumni Reunions (YAR), to incubating programs like the University’s GivingToHoosDay annual giving day effort, to developing alumni leaders who have gone on to have widespread impact on the University through service and volunteer leadership. More recently, YAC held two virtual Alumni Interest Groups (AIG) Leaders Summits to discuss various themes around representation, support from the University, scholarships, and programming. We worked with the Vice Provost for Online Education and Digital Innovation and the UVA Online Education team to beta test and provide feedback through workshops on Alumni Career Learning platforms. We relaunched the Alumni Service Award, where winners were announced in the Virginia Fall Magazine. YAC is actively working to highlight and connect alumni with the University’s latest news, resources, and city-based social programming.
YAC is composed of up to thirty-six council members who represent the twelve most recent classes of UVA undergraduate alumni. YAC is led by an executive committee of president, vice president, and secretary, who are elected each year and advised by Alumni Association staff. Council members serve on committees and working groups on an ad hoc basis and have the option to serve two consecutive three-year terms on YAC. Members typically participate in one primary committee throughout the year, with topics ranging from alumni career development to Alumni Interest Groups (AIG) to development and alumni engagement. Members also have the option to participate in secondary committees as their time and interest allow, with additional topics including the Alumni Service Award, selections, and internal initiatives.
All members are expected to:
