The College Compass Connection program connects current UVA students with prospective high school students from alumni families in order to provide another touch point (not to replace the College Compass counselors’ meetings) and foster a sense of community.
How does it work? We match pairs based on shared academic and extracurricular interests, collected from a brief survey. Once connected, the mentor (a current UVA student) will email or set up video/phone conversations with their mentee (a high school student considering UVA). We encourage mentors to check in with mentees every month or two. Mentors are encouraged to attend a training session.
Mentees get to connect with a UVA student who’s not only been through the college process, but who also has very recent insight on what it’s like to be a student at UVA specifically. Peer-to-peer support!
