Meet our College Compass Connection Mentors! In this rapid-fire interview, hear from Charlotte S. (Col class of ’26), an Economics major (with a minor in General Business) from Stafford, Virginia.

What is your favorite Bodo’s order?
An everything bagel sandwich with egg. Or a salad!
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?
I always enjoyed taking a trip to the Fralin Art Museum or downtown to Daedalus Books, a used bookstore.
What has surprised you most about your experience?
Since UVA is a large school, I figured I wouldn’t have close relationships with my professors. That could not have been less true! Most of my professors knew me by name as well as details about my major and work on Grounds. Office hours were a great location to connect with professors, but they also made an effort to chat before and after class and were approachable by email.
My favorite class or professor has been…?
My favorite class was Sound Studies (MUSI 2090) with Noel Lobley and Alex Christie. While this was a music class, it was really an immersive art course. We did everything from analyzing ambient music albums by Brian Eno, constructing our own cassette tapes, and creating an installation at the Fralin with Xolile ‘X’ Madinda, a visiting artist.
How has the UVA student community, whether through clubs, Greek life, athletics or informal friendships, helped you find your people?
Being involved with student self-governance was an incredible opportunity to meet passionate students. Everyone I worked with on the Honor Committee and Class Council was incredibly motivated and passionate about serving the school and we bonded over our love for UVA.
