Spring 1984 was UVA’s first year for their Study Abroad Program in Valencia, Spain. Small group! Great fun!

At a fraternity formal end of my first year with my then-boyfriend (now my husband of 35 years).

December 1976, 3rd floor Kent dorm (south end). Our hallway was an extension of our dorm rooms. The payphone mounted next to the bathroom entrance was mostly used for incoming calls. We could place long distance outgoing calls on the RA’s telephone whenever she put it in the hallway outside her door (we paid for our calls when the monthly bill arrived). The popcorn maker was often in use outside the RA’s room (where it was plugged in), especially during midterms and finals week. This photo shows us gathering together at the end of our 1st college semester.

Fall 1976. Gatherings were common in my dorm room. On this particular evening, everyone huddled in close as one of my hallmates read aloud from the Playgirl magazine that my roommate had just received from us for her 18th birthday.

So I went to a football game accidentally wearing the other team’s colors oops. I then bought the flag you see in the middle of the photo to demonstrate that I was a UVA fan. Long story short bought the flag back to Maryland and the club loved it!

This is from my first year in Page Dorm, with my roommate, Yvette, in our room. We called it “cell block 305” due to the cinder block walls and non-existent carpet.

Taken on the Monday morning after the 1975 Easter’s Sunday party in Mad Bowl. This was the result of the fire hydrant being opened.

Sunday of Easters Weekend, 1975. Parties at individual frat houses were banned. Everything was moved to Mad Bowl. No mud allowed. But somebody opened up fire hydrant on the Rugby Road side. There was a fair amount of mud. This picture comes for the Corks and Curls. See second picture posted of the following morning, which was not in the yearbook.

We met at a party at Lambeth and dated in our third and fourth years at UVA (1988-1990), then we parted ways pursuing our careers – Tom went to Detroit, I went to New York City. We both went on to marry other people; each of us had two daughters. In 2016 we reconnected after our respective divorces. In 2020 we married — 32 YEARS after we first met. A UVA happy ending, for certain! We now live in Ithaca NY and spend 3-5 months a year on the road, exploring the world in our self built camper van.

Moving one foot in front of the other to make it to the coveted graduation. Lucky to have my Nursing School cohort in the sea of Schools graduating!

I attended the college then the School of Nursing, class of 1974. It was like straddling two worlds – the college where women were making their way depending in large part on each other for guidance (the male ego was all over the place and unpredictable – lover or hater) and McKim Hall/McLeod Hall where women were the majority but a “class system” existed none the less (diploma and BSN RNs). We learned the traditions and, in so learning, were prepared for the work world of the hospital. Pinning was as important as graduating.

Delighted to celebrate Reunions Weekend at UVA in Charlottesville!!! Let the celebration begin!!!

During my undergraduate tenure at UVA from September 1970 through May 1974, large Afro hair styles were the classic norm for most African American students. I did not get a major hair cut during my entire undergraduate years at UVA. Due to my Afro, I and other African Americans students in the Pep Band during that area who proudly sported their Afros were exempted from having to wear the traditional Pep Band straw hat during Pet Band performances at sporting events. Fifty years later, I am often still referred to as “That guy with the big Afro.”
