Meet our College Compass Connection Mentors! In this rapid-fire interview, hear from Genevieve F. (Engr class of ’26), an Aerospace Engineering major from Springfield, Virginia.

What is your favorite Bodo’s order?
Everything bagel with egg, ham, and provolone
What is one tradition, like Lighting of the Lawn, painting Beta Bridge, Trick or Treating on the Lawn, that you did not expect to love but now cannot imagine college without?
Rotunda Sing! UVA has a ton of high level a capella groups and they all perform an outdoor concert at the Rotunda the first week of classes in the fall.
What is your favorite thing to do on the weekend?
Go to basketball games at JPJ! The programs have seen some highs and lows in my time here, but watching ACC match-ups from courtside student seats is pretty awesome no matter what.
How has the UVA student community, whether through clubs, Greek life, athletics or informal friendships, helped you find your people?
I joined the Jefferson Literary and Debating Society, the oldest student organization on Grounds, in my first semester at UVA. Through the Jeff Society I have befriended people I never would have met through the engineering school and got to experience a different part of the University and its history up close.
As a child of a UVA alum, how has your experience compared to the stories you grew up hearing, and what’s your favorite new tradition you have discovered on your own?
My mom went to UVA, and as a result I grew up an avid UVA sports fan who couldn’t even remember learning the Good Old Song. While singing at basketball and football games are some of my favorite memories in college, I’ve also made some of my own traditions with friends, like hanging out in the Gardens and making Cookout runs.
